The first monthly meeting of Haughton Women’s Institute was held on the second Wednesday in October (13th) 1920. This meeting was the result of a group of women meeting earlier in the year on July 20th with the idea of setting up a Women’s Institute in the village. The first committee meeting was held on September 8th, when the date of the first monthly meeting was decided. Haughton WI was formed 5 years after the first British WI meeting, which was held in Llanfairpwll, Anglesey on September 16th 1915.
These lime trees were planted by Haughton Evening Women’s Institute in 1970 to commemorate its Golden Jubilee.
