Haughton Parish’s hidden gem - a pastureland with rare flowers

The Common is situated north of Allimore Green on the Church Eaton Road.  It is managed by Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.

For more detailed information on the Common, and on other Staffordshire Wildlife Trust sites visit www.staffordshirewildlife.org.uk and follow the Places to Visit link.

Allimore Green Common belongs to the village.  A Site of Special Scientific Interest, the Common hosts five species of orchid, including the Southern Marsh-Orchid.

When condition permit a Summer Walk/Open Evening is held to give parish residents the opportunity to view the orchids and other plants in company with a knowledgeable guide from Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.  Unfortunately, due to a series of very wet springs and summers, it has not been possible to hold the walk since 2010.  Shown below are some images from the Open Evening held on Thursday 9th July 2009 when the orchids were in flower, a variety of reeds, sedges and mints were shown and one of the Highland Cattle which graze the common paid a visit.
