The Bell supports many village events and charities.  On Sunday 7th October 2012 an auction of produce donated by members of St Giles’ Church, pupils from St Giles C of E Primary School and other people for the Harvest Festival was held.  Over £1200 was raised.  The money was divided equally between the church, school and Horace’s Outing Fund (see Societies page).

Harvest Festival Auction

Haughton’s annual Harvest Festival Auction took place on Sunday 6th October at the Bell Inn.  Food hampers and produce given by children, families and congregation to the church and school harvest festivals, together with donated produce and services from residents, friends and businesses were gathered and displayed at the Bell and put under the hammer.  Hosts Alison and Richard welcomed the many participants to their award-winning pub.  Auctioneer Bob Swinnerton, assisted by Councillor Derek Warbrick, sold each lot to the highest bidder, raising in excess of £1700 for the benefit of local charities.  The money was divided between St Giles Church, Haughton St Giles Primary School and Horace’s Outing, a charity which benefits the more mature residents of Haughton by providing them with an annual trip to the seaside.  The auction continued Haughton’s fine tradition of raising money for local charities and a convivial good time was had by all.
